Indonesia Prioritizes Local Content in Construction of ASEAN Summit Venue in NTT

The Indonesian government, through its state-owned tourism development corporation PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia (ITDC), is prioritizing the use of local products in the construction of the Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) facilities and supporting infrastructure for the ASEAN Summit venue in Golo Mori, East Nusa Tenggara. The development, which is already at 90.95% completion, aims to achieve an 80% local content target and is expected to be finished by the end of March 2023, in time for the summit in May 2023. The ITDC hopes that the facilities will be utilized beyond the summit to further boost tourism and the economy in the Labuan Bajo National Tourism Strategic Area.

The development of the MICE area, which is equipped with a beach club, observation deck, and wooden pier, is to welcome the ASEAN Summit in May 2023. The MICE area in Golo Mori will be one of the venues for the series of meetings of leaders of ASEAN member countries.

Helson Siagian, the Senior Advisor of the Executive Office of the President, stated that the construction of MICE facilities and supporting infrastructure in Golo Mori has reached 90.95 percent completion. “The target is to finish by the end of March 2023,” said Helson during his visit to the MICE area in Golo Mori, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday (22/2).

Helson stated that the development of MICE facilities and supporting infrastructure in Golo Mori prioritizes the use of domestic products. The majority of materials, furniture, and ornaments used come from local labor-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“The Domestic Component Level (TKDN) or local content in this project is around eighty percent,” said Helson.

Helson is optimistic that the ASEAN Summit 2023 in Golo Mori will further boost tourism and the economy in the National Strategic Tourism Area (KSPN) of Labuan Bajo.

On that occasion, Troy Reza Warokka, the Director of Operations of PT ITDC (Persero), hoped that various facilities currently being built in Golo Mori would not only be for the ASEAN Summit. In the future, they could be utilized to improve the welfare of the surrounding community.

“We (ITDC) hope that government agencies, private sector, or the wider community can hold various activities at this place, both on a national and international scale,” said Troy.
