The construction of Indonesia’s new capital city in East Kalimantan, officially known as the Nusantara Capital, is progressing according to plan, according to Dr. Moeldoko, the Chief of Staff to the President.
Moeldoko recently visited the construction site in Penajam Paser Utara and saw first-hand the construction of government infrastructure, including the Presidential Palace and ministry offices. Despite facing weather-related challenges, the development of the capital city is currently at 15% progress, as reported by the Head of the Implementation Task Force of Nusantara Capital Infrastructure Development.
During the visit on Wednesday (8/2), Moeldoko expressed his admiration for President Joko Widodo’s dedication to the new capital city’s development and emphasized the importance of support from all parties to ensure its speedy completion. He noted that the construction of the Nusantara Capital would boost economic growth and other sectors, and called on everyone to refrain from disrupting the process.
Moeldoko also visited the residential area for construction workers and the Sepaku Semoi Dam, and expressed satisfaction with the quality of the facilities. The Indonesian government’s plan for the Nusantara Capital spans from 2022 to 2045 and is divided into five phases.
The first phase, from 2022 to 2024, focuses on basic infrastructure such as water supply, electricity, and waste management. The second phase, from 2025 to 2029, will involve developing the core areas of the city, including public transportation facilities. The third phase, from 2030 to 2034, will focus on industrial and other sector developments, while the fourth and fifth phases, from 2035 to 2039 and from 2040 to 2045, respectively, will aim to achieve net-zero carbon emissions, sustainable industrial development, and making Nusantara Capital the most competitive city in the world.
“The Nusantara Capital project is expected to become a driving force for economic growth and will have a significant impact on the development of the entire country,” said Danis Sumadilaga, Head of the Implementation Task Force of Nusantara Capital Infrastructure Development.
