Jakarta – The Executive Office of the President appreciates the high public interest in registering their vehicles on MyPertamina app and website to buy subsidized gasoline or diesel.
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, the Sub Holding Commercial & Trading of the state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, reported 50,000 vehicles have been registered at either the MyPertamina application or the subsiditepat.mypertamina.id website for subsidized fuel. The number itself was captured from July 1st to 4th, only a few days after the regulation came into force.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the MyPertamina application has been downloaded 4 million times.
The Senior Advisor of the Executive Office of the President, Hageng Nugroho, said that it indicates a public’s approval towards the government’s policy in ensuring subsidized fuel not to be abused.
“There has been a mutual understanding and awareness among the public that subsidized fuel should not be enjoyed by the upper classes. This is such a big leap for the country to provide equity in the subsidy system,” said Hageng, in Jakarta, Thursday (7/7).
The government, according to Hageng, has tried to shield the people from record gasoline prices due to soaring energy costs and skyrocketing international oil prices. The government has set the energy subsidy at Rp 502 trillion (USD 33.48 million).
Hageng said the policy was to prevent the wasteful use of subsidized fuel and to maintain its affordability for the poor. With that, the government hopes to protect the people from the economic impact of the soaring global oil price and to ensure domestic economic activity keeps running effectively.
“The government wishes to reduce the burden on the people,” said Hageng. “Therefore, people are also expected to be wiser in consuming subsidized fuel,”.
The Senior Advisor also encouraged the state-owned company to maintain fair distribution of subsidized gasoline or diesel, by conducting continuous outreach to the public and improving supporting infrastructure.
For the initial stage, the purchase of subsidized Pertalite gasoline through MyPertamina app would be implemented in cities located in 5 provinces: West Sumatra, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, West Java, and DI Yogyakarta.
The distribution of subsidized fuel is stipulated under the Presidential Regulation No. 191/2014 on procurement, distribution and fuel retail prices and BPH Migas Decree (SK) No. 4/2020.
