Moeldoko Calls On Firm Action Against Data Theft

Jakarta – Chief of Staff to the President Moeldoko pays serious attention to the recent rise of cyberattacks perpetrated by a pseudonym hacker, only known as Bjorka. With state cybersecurity defenses and citizens’ personal data being breached, Moeldoko has called on firm action against the data thief.

“Violation against Indonesia’s data sovereignty must be addressed seriously with firm actions, there is no room for forgiveness,” said Moeldoko, in Jakarta, Friday (16/9).

“Data sovereignty in cyberspace is an extension of state sovereignty. We shall not ignore this data breach spree, otherwise the state will be considered weak,” he added.

During a meeting with the Head of the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) Hinsa Siburian and several CEOs of digital software companies on Friday (16/9), the Chief of Staff delivered his concern towards the state’s latest cybersecurity measures.

According to Moeldoko, the current data breach has created a great timing for the government to fix the country’s cybersecurity defenses. One of the ways is through the advancement of locally-made technology developed by national young digital talents.

“We have the technology, we also have talents majoring in cybersecurity. Let’s mobilize these resources to strengthen our national cybersecurity and cyber sovereignty. We must ensure that the data control is at our hands,” said Moeldoko.

As the former Indonesian Military Commander called on the development of national digital talents, the country’s database system will soon be strengthened with an integrated local cloud system developed by local youth.

President Director of PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Persero) Edi Witjara confirmed that the development of the aforementioned cloud system was on the way. It is called “INTI” cloud system

The INTI cloud system, he explained, is a local innovation in the form of a blockchain service platform. Its security is guaranteed as the development and monitoring system formed through a joint-collaboration with BSSN.
