Dubai – Deputy I of the Executive Office of the President (KSP), Febry Calvin Tetelepta, disclosed that the world leaders appreciate the Government of Indonesia’s efforts to accelerate net zero emission in 2060. Those appreciations were confirmed in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Forum (ADWS), in Dubai.
“It’s Indonesia’s hardwork and effort to reach net zero carbon emission by 2060, as well as real commitment from President Joko Widodo to build a prosperous and sustainable country with inclusive economy,” said Febry during ADSW Forum, in Dubai, Wednesday (6/12).
The Deputy of Infrastructure, Energy, and Investment of the KSP mentioned some of the government’s attempts in achieving net zero carbon emission. Among them improving the management of forest and other land use (FOLU) also accelerating the transition to renewable energy (RE). In managing FOLU, he added, the government continues to protect and expand mangrove forests as well as rehabilitate it. “A decrease in deforestation rates to the lowest point in the last twenty years. Then the construction of large-scale nurseries with a capacity of 75 million seedlings per year,” said Febry.
Meanwhile, on the acceleration of the transition to RE, he said, the government is developing renewable energy, especially solar, water, wind, geothermal and marine energy along with the development of biodiesel, bioethanol, and bioavtur. In 2022, the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix reached 11,3%, escalate from year 2021 with 9.1%
“One of the milestones of Net Zero Emission 2060 is the utilization of renewable energy up to 23% by 2025. It also needs a lot of effort and hard work at the end of President Joko Widodo’s administration,” he confirmed.
According to Febry, to achieve the net zero carbon emissions target by 2060, Indonesia also needs to be able to increase climate finance, particularly by inviting a number of parties such as bilateral partners, private investment, philanthropies, and partner countries. Hence, the presence of the Government of Indonesia at the ADWS Forum is important. Because the forum, which is attended by world leaders, investors, business actors, and RE innovators, has the same pledge, specifically in strengthening climate finance to stimulate the energy transition.
“At the ADWS Forum, the participants also agreed to commit to bring together various sources of funding to support the energy transitions and carbon emission reduction,” he confirmed.
On that occasion, Febry also conveyed that the hard work of the Government of Indonesia in achieving net zero carbon emissions has also raised the trust of several countries. It is proven that Indonesia received the continuation of the contribution of the Government of Norwegia of USD 100 billion under the result-based payment scheme for deforestation performance in the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 periods.
“This funding is a form of global recognition of Indonesia’s achievements in reducing emissions through the reduction of deforestation and forest degradation,” Febry concluded.
