KSP: Ubud Prepares to Redefine Culinary Tourism on a Global Scale

Ubud, Bali – The picturesque town of Ubud, nestled in the heart of Bali, is gearing up to revolutionize the world of culinary tourism. With meticulous planning and unwavering determination, Ubud is set to establish itself as a global gastronomic destination that will captivate the taste buds of food enthusiasts from around the world.

According to Helson Siagian, the Senior Advisor of the Executive Office of the President (KSP), Ubud has undergone an intensive development process to ensure its readiness for this remarkable transformation. From comprehensive analysis and diagnosis to the meticulous formulation of technical designs and business plans, every aspect has been meticulously addressed.

“Two crucial phases of the development process have already been completed, leaving only the final phase of business plan implementation. Our target is to complete this phase by September,” Helson stated during the Kick-off Meeting for the Follow-up of the Pilot Project for the Development of Ubud as a Gastronomy Destination by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Friday (23/6).

The meeting, attended by key stakeholders such as the Presidential Staff Office, Gianyar Regency Government, Indonesia Gastronomy Network, academics from Udayana University, and local gastronomy tourism industry players, underscored the strategic significance of Ubud’s development as a world-class culinary destination. President Joko Widodo’s vision of showcasing Indonesia’s culinary excellence and rich spices to the world resonated throughout the discussions.

Helson stressed three fundamental elements to optimize the program’s success. Firstly, meticulous planning with clear and measurable targets is of utmost importance. Secondly, the establishment of a destination management organization (DMO) will facilitate effective coordination among all stakeholders. Lastly, the significance of robust public communication campaigns cannot be understated.

Highlighting the essence of Ubud’s transformation, Helson emphasized that gastronomy should become the primary motivation for tourists to embark on a journey to this captivating town. With its rich culinary heritage and the vibrant lifestyle it has engendered among the local community, Ubud offers a tantalizing blend of cultural immersion and culinary exploration.

Optimism prevails as strong collaboration between the government and stakeholders, encompassing all segments of society, paves the way for Ubud’s rapid transformation into a world-class gastronomy destination. The anticipated benefits include a manifold increase in the welfare of the local community and the creation of new avenues for economic growth.

Looking ahead, Ubud’s success in establishing itself as a gastronomy tourism hub is expected to inspire other regions, particularly the five Super Priority Tourism Destinations (SPTD) in Indonesia: Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang.

“The presence of the Executive Office of the President (KSP) provides resolute support in achieving these ambitious goals”, Helson Said.

The collaboration between the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Indonesian Government since 2018 has been instrumental in paving the way for Ubud’s gastronomy transformation. The UNWTO’s valuable insights have provided a blueprint for Ubud’s journey towards becoming a global gastronomy destination.

Gastronomy tourism, with its holistic approach to food exploration encompassing everything from preparation and ingredient selection to cooking techniques, presentation, aesthetics, and quality, is set to redefine Ubud’s identity on the world stage.

Ubud’s selection as the destination for this gastronomy venture is no coincidence. The town’s stakeholders are primed and highly collaborative, and food has become an integral part of the local lifestyle. This is evident in Ubud’s historical heritage, exemplified by the Yeh Pulu relief, which narrates the agricultural, farming, and hunting traditions that have shaped the local gastronomy culture since the 14th century AD.

Mandalika Circuit: Driving Long-Term Investments and Equitable Development in Indonesia

Jakarta – The construction and development of the Mandalika International Circuit in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) have emerged as a pivotal long-term investment to foster equitable development and promote Indonesia-centric growth. Helson Siagian, a Senior Advisor of the Executive Office of the President (KSP), addressed concerns regarding the circuit’s Rp 4.6 trillion debt, emphasizing its significance in achieving balanced development across the country.

“The development of this circuit is a carefully planned initiative aimed at creating a new tourism center, particularly in NTB. It serves as tangible evidence of President Jokowi’s commitment to ensuring balanced development in Indonesia,” stated Helson, on Friday (16/6).

Helson further emphasized that the utilization of the Mandalika Circuit as a venue for international racing events, including MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, WSBK, and the Asian Talent Cup, has yielded substantial and sustainable multiplier effects. The recent success of the WSBK 2023 event alone had a remarkable Rp 5 trillion impact on Indonesia’s economic landscape.

“We, at KSP, firmly believe that in the forthcoming years, the development of the Mandalika Circuit will yield even greater outcomes, further strengthening NTB as one of the sustainable Super Priority Tourism Destinations,” added Helson.

Regarding the removal of the World Superbike event, Siagian stressed that it should not be a point of contention. He underscored the multitude of international events that can still be organized at the Mandalika Circuit, attracting quality tourists and enthusiasts, such as the Porsche Challenge and L’Etape Indonesia by Tour de France. “Of course, MotoGP is also on the list,” the Senior Advisor remarked.

The Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, situated in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Central Lombok, NTB, spans a track length of 4.31 kilometers, featuring 17 turns and expansive run-off areas. Inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in 2021, the circuit was designed as a street circuit, ensuring its availability to the public when no racing events are taking place.

The Mandalika Circuit’s contribution to long-term investments, job creation, and equitable development continues to position it as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s aspirations for a thriving motorsports industry. As the nation eagerly awaits its forthcoming events, the Mandalika Circuit stands as a symbol of Indonesia’s determination to carve a prominent place on the global motorsports stage.

KSP Urges Program Coordination for 14% Stunting Reduction by 2024

Medan – The Executive Office of the President (KSP) has issued a strong call for improved program coordination by the Acceleration Team for Stunting Reduction (TPPS) at the provincial and district levels. This urgent appeal seeks to enhance the effectiveness of interventions and aims to achieve a significant 14% reduction in stunting prevalence by 2024. The KSP emphasizes the crucial importance of aligning efforts and resources to combat the persistent issue of stunting among children in Indonesia.

“Extra efforts are required to reach the target of a 14% reduction in stunting prevalence. One aspect that we believe needs improvement is the program synchronization carried out by the TPPS at the regional level,” stated dr. Brian Sri Prahastuti, a Senior Advisor of KSP, during a visit in Medan, North Sumatra, on Friday (9/6).

She also emphasized that in addition to the synchronization challenges faced by the TPPS, there are several other obstacles that must be overcome to achieve the targeted 14% reduction in stunting. Insufficient funding for targeted nutrition interventions, suboptimal implementation of regulatory frameworks, and the limited effectiveness of Posyandu services and family resilience have all contributed to the persistence of this issue.

She, then, underscored the critical importance of strengthening Posyandu services, which serve as crucial platforms for delivering comprehensive healthcare to children and families. She called for an increase in the allocation of budgets specifically designated for nutrition interventions, emphasizing the need to provide locally sourced supplementary food (PMT) to address nutritional deficiencies effectively. Furthermore, he emphasized the utilization of Electronic-Based Government Systems (SPBE) as a tool to ensure consistency and integration of data and information, facilitating better monitoring and evaluation of interventions.

“We need consistency and integration of the data and information provided through the SPBE. Currently, there are discrepancies in various information or data, making it difficult to monitor the progress,” explained dr. Brian.

During her visit, dr. Brian commended the remarkable achievements of the TPPS in North Sumatra, where they successfully managed to reduce stunting prevalence by an impressive 4.7% in 2022. Recognizing the effectiveness of their strategies and interventions, she expressed optimism that these successful practices can serve as a model for other regions to follow. By replicating these approaches, it is hoped that significant strides can be made in reducing stunting rates nationwide and ensuring the healthy growth and development of children throughout the country.

“All parties have agreed to tighten the construction schedule. The target completion date has been advanced from December 2023 to September 2023,” said Helson Siagian, a Senior Advisor at KSP, during a Coordination Meeting to Accelerate the Construction of Serbaraja Toll Road, held in Tangerang Selatan on Thursday (8/6).

Helson stated that Serbaraja Toll Road Section 1B will complement the existing Section 1A (BSD-CBD), which was inaugurated earlier by President Joko Widodo on September 20, 2022. This will result in a total toll road length of 9.84 kilometers for Section 1. The government will then focus on expediting land acquisition and physical work for Sections 2 and 3.

Notably, this project is implemented under the Government and Business Entity Cooperation (KPBU) unsolicited scheme, initiated by PT Trans Bumi Serbaraja as the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT).

“This is in line with the government’s commitment to allow the private sector to play a larger role in infrastructure development in Indonesia,” he said. Consequently, the project has been designated as a National Strategic Project (PSN).

During the same occasion, Paulus Wawan Koessoemarjanto, Director of PT Trans Bumi Serbaraja, explained that the 39.8-kilometer Serbaraja Toll Road consists of three sections: Section 1 BSD-Legok, Section 2 Legok-Pasir Barat, and Section 3 Pasir Barat-Balaraja.

Meanwhile, Sudaryanto, Head of the Regional Office of the National Land Agency (BPN) in Banten Province, stated that the Ministry of ATR/BPN, along with the Ministry of Public Works and Regional Government, has facilitated land acquisition for the Serbaraja Toll Road. Currently, land procurement for Section 1 has reached 97.68 percent completion.
